These digital prints, scanned from ink and collaged drawings, are a little clumsy and so seem to refer to that first ‘learning to read’ process of childhood. They were, though, drawn when I was writing an MPhil dissertation and struggling to understand various texts and ideas. The prints were made with the assistance of Tim Stokes, for many years our very able Foundation technician demonstrator. Tim, who originally studied on Foundation with us, collaborated with me on many outputs, offering his expertise and judgment with unfailing kindness. This relationship epitomised the shared, collaborative and ongoing learning process that I hoped to engender within the Foundation course.
